Our Purpose Statement:
Following our retreat in January 2008, our session adopted the following
purpose statement:
Purpose Statement:
The Book of Order states that the six great ends of the church are:
 |
Worship: The maintenance of divine worship:
When Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord
your God with all of your heart, strength, soul and might, he set worship at
the heart and center of life. We gather for worship to glorify God and to
allow God to impact our lives anew.
|
 |
Fellowship: The shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the
children of God We gather in communities of support to heal, pray and serve,
to care for and learn from one another, and to experience life together. |
 |
Discipleship: The preservation of the truth. Jesus said, “I am the
way, the truth and the life.” As people who are seeking to follow Jesus, we
recognize that the truth cannot be separated from the way or the life.
That’s why we are committed to grow in the way, the truth and the life of
Christ through spiritual disciplines (e.g., prayer, stewardship, Sabbath
keeping, fasting, and hospitality) and through life-long learning from our
scriptures, tradition, and history. |
 |
Ministry: The exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the World.
Following the way of Jesus, we seek to be for others the embodiment of his
love and truth. While we are not perfect, we believe together we can give
the world a glimpse of the One God who calls broken, unique individuals into
a new community that serves and loves unconditionally. Therefore we strive
to discover and use our God-given gifts to build up the Body of Christ. |
 |
Evangelism: The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of
humankind. When coupled with our actions, our stories can inspire and bring
hope by proclaiming Jesus as Lord and Savior of our troubled world.
Therefore we strive to be comfortable communicating our faith. |
 |
Mission: The promotion of the social righteousness. Faith is action,
and we seek to act on our beliefs passionately, following the way of Jesus.
We have the opportunity to make a difference. That's why we leverage both
our resources and our selves in pursuit of tangible results. |
